How Facebook Marketplace fees work

Facebook Marketplace supports two economically different sale paths. In a local sale, Facebook introduces the buyer and seller, but the handoff and payment happen directly between them. Because Marketplace does not process that payment, this calculator models the platform selling fee as $0. You should still include product cost, meetup travel, cleaning, promoted-listing spend, or another real expense in “other seller costs.”

For an eligible shipped order completed through Marketplace checkout, the calculator starts with a reported 10% selling fee and an $0.80 minimum. Availability and terms can differ by account and location, so both fields are editable. Use the rate displayed in your current order or seller settings rather than treating the default as a guaranteed payout quote.

Profit = item price + buyer shipping − Marketplace fee − postage − product − packaging − other seller costs

Facebook Marketplace fee examples

$50 local sale

With no platform selling fee, a $15 product cost and $2 in other costs leave an estimated $33 profit before taxes or unmodeled expenses.

$50 item shipped

If the buyer also pays $8 shipping and $4 tax, a 10% fee on the $62 checkout is $6.20. Then subtract your label, packaging, and product costs.

Facebook Marketplace fee calculator FAQ

Does Facebook Marketplace charge a fee for local pickup?

This tool models an ordinary local sale paid directly between buyer and seller with a $0 platform selling fee. Optional promotion, travel, payment-service, or business costs can still apply.

Why can I edit the shipped-order fee?

Marketplace features and terms can vary by location, account, and rollout. An editable field prevents an old default from silently overriding the rate shown in your actual seller account.

Does the fee apply to shipping and tax?

The shipped model applies the selected percentage to item price, buyer-paid shipping, and entered sales tax. Compare that fee base with the breakdown shown on your actual order before relying on the estimate.

Why are buyer shipping and my postage separate?

Buyer shipping is money collected with the order. Your postage or label is the fulfillment expense you pay. They may be different amounts.

Does this calculate income tax or sales tax?

No. Sales tax is accepted only as a possible checkout fee-base input. The result is not an income-tax calculation or tax advice.

Is Facebook Marketplace better than eBay?

Local Marketplace transactions may avoid a platform selling fee, while eBay can provide broader buyer reach and a structured checkout. Compare the same product with the eBay fee calculator before choosing.
